BIAFRA NATIONS LEAGUE PULLS DOWN CAMEROON FLAG IN BAKASSI PENINSULA

■ Pro-Biafra group, Biafra Nations League, BNL in a statement according to DAILY POST confirmed the removal of Cameroon’s national flag from Abana, former headquarters of Bakassi Peninsula.

The group have staged attacks in parts of the Peninsula, an oil-rich territory ceded to Cameroon from Nigeria on 10 October 2002 by the International Court of Justice.

In the said statement from BNL, the group’s Head of Operations Henry Edet confirmed the action was carried out last night by militia loyal to the group after the visit of the National Leader, Princewill Chimezie who had threatened to remove every billboards bearing the Republic of Cameroon.

Edet  disclosed that it was not possible to hoist the Biafra flag due to sporadic shooting by Cameroonian armed forces in the area last night.

He insisted the pro-Biafra group will not ignore the plight of the residents of Bakassi Peninsula, and frowns at the deplorable condition of the Island.

Also, the group kicked against the announcement from Nigerian Navy on plans to establish two operational bases in Ikang and DaySpring Island in Bakassi.

Meanwhile, natives of Bakassi Peninsula are being forced to display their Identification Cards before crossing to their homeland by the Cameroonian armed forces. The renewed checking of I.D is to identify the real indigenes of the Island. ●
