
NIGERIA SUPER EAGLES FALL IN LATEST FIFA RANKING
■ The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped from third to fifth in Africa and 34th globally with 1480 points in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking released on Thursday and published on FIFA’s official website.
The team managed by Gernot Rohr has failed to win any of their three international games, losing twice and drew one. The three-time African champions dropped seven places from the last ranking.
Senegal, Tunisia and Algeria emerged as the top three teams in Africa respectively. They were followed by Morocco, which placed fourth.
Despite being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the European championship, Belgium retained their number one spot in the world ranking.
Brazil took the second spot swapping places with France which placed third. England retained the fourth position even as they emerged EURO runner-up, and eventual tournament winners, Italy, moved up to fifth.
Copa America champions, Argentina reaped the benefits of a triumphant campaign by placing sixth while Spain and Portugal were placed seventh and eight respectively. Mexico took the ninth spot above their rival United States placed tenth in the latest ranking for senior men team.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be published on 16 September 2021 stated the official website of FIFA.
