BACK TO BACK OLYMPIC FOOTBALL GOLD FOR TEAM BRAZIL

■ For the second consecutive time in the men’s football tournament of the Olympic Games, Team Brazil has won gold medal, as substitute Malcolm decided the tie which had extended into extra time in a 2-1 win over Spain on Saturday.


Matheus Cunha’s goal in first-half stoppage time was a morale booster after Richarlison missed a penalty shot for the Brazilian team. The Spanish team equalized as Mikel Oyarzabel smashed home a thumping volley but the winner was secured in the 108th minute by former Barcelona forward Malcom.


Brazil had won gold in the Olympic Games which was held on home soil at Rio in 2016 making them the fifth team to retain their Olympic crown. The Olympic football winning team mostly made up of youngsters is a beacon of hope for Brazil at the upcoming World Cup slated for end of next year. The 38-year-old team captain Daniel Alves, by his performance in the tournament showed that experience is never an impediment to operating at the top levels.
